Meet Me There: Happy Easter!

Happy Easter - Meet

Happy Easter 2025! So much of what brought us to this day of celebration of the resurrection of Jesus Christ happened prior to that first Easter. So, as you know me, the phrase “meet me” captured my heart on Good Friday and this poem was born! Is the “me” in the poem Jesus or me? That’s the question.

The Road to Calvary: Meet Me There!

Meet me at Bethlehem
the mystery of all mysteries
a baby born to save the world
for me

Meet me in Egypt
immigrants running for a baby's life
fearful of the Roman ruler's insanity
protected by God the Father
of his Son
for me

Meet me in Nazareth
a carpenter's son
sawdust in his hair
splinters in his rough hands
shoulders ache after a long day at the table
learning the trade from His
earthly father
for me

Meet me on the road
to Bethany
to raise Lazarus from the dead
to Sea of Galilee
to walk on water
to Cana
to turn the water into wine
to Jerusalem
to death
for me

Meet me with Jesus’ band of disciples
a motley crew
fishermen
Peter, Andrew, James, and John
tax collector
Matthew
treasurer
Judas Iscariot
others' occupation not identified
Philip, Bartholomew, Thomas, James (son of Alphaeus),
Thaddaeus, and Simon the Zealot
dedicated to Jesus so quickly
for me

Meet me with His unlikely followers
prostitutes
sinners
people who knew they needed a Savior
for me

Meet me on Maundy Thursday
betrayed yet a servant
to His disciples, washing
their feet
for me
shared bread
for me

Meet me at Gethsemane
facing life and death
facing divinity and human frailty
for me

Meet me with the Roman rulers
His life in their hands
questions, questions, questions
What is truth?”
ultimately manipulated by the crowd & the Pharisees
sentenced to the cross
for me

Meet me at Golgotha
stripped bare
hanging from a cross
the criminals' death
for me

Meet me at the tomb
mission accomplished
revealed Himself to a woman first
Resurrection
His life changed the world!
for me

During my childhood, I remember the joy and anticipation of dressing up for Easter. It meant a new dress, shoes, and often purse and hat as you can see in the pictures below. I wanted to leave you with my childhood experience of Easter on the front steps or the side the house!

My friend, Deborah Carroll-Jones , posted a picture of herself as a child at Easter on Facebook. When I saw it, I reminded me of all these pictures.

I’ve written several times about Easter over the years in my blog:

as I ponder this day and its importance, I woke up to Easter cards from my dear husband in key places around our house. He’s an avid supporter of St. Bonaventure Indian Mission and School and had a backlog of Easter cards. So I was the lucky recipient—what a dear he is! After a delicious breakfast of elk sausage and eggs, I enjoyed a beautiful Easter service on Facebook Live from my church, Hope in the Desert Episcopal Church. Writing this blog has kept me in the spirit of the holiday too.

It’s so easy to get caught up in the commercialism of this holiday, but we don’t have to—the Lord is Risen! He is risen indeed! Meet me there and let’s share our experience with the Risen Lord!

I hope your day has been blessed too!
